Which Word files work?
The modern .docx format. An older .doc file is not supported yet: Open it in Word and save it as .docx first, then drop that.
Can you turn a PDF back into Word?
Not yet. This tool goes one way, Word to PDF. To pull the words out of a PDF instead, use PDF to text, which also reads scans.
What about Chinese, Japanese or Arabic text?
It shows correctly on the page. Selecting and searching that text is not supported yet; Latin, Greek and Cyrillic are fully selectable.
